A time has been set for our cluster to perform at Barnes and Noble for Thursday, November 30 at 6:15 PM. We will sing Christmas Carols. Please help us by bringing your child to Barnes and Noble Thursday night. We will start singing at 6:15, so please try to arrive on time so that your child will not miss it. You might wish to anticipate traffic and parking to arrive on time.
Thank you so much for your time and effort in helping us with this event. Be sure to record this with your volunteer hours on Renweb. I also want to thank you in advance for any purchases you make using our school code. The funds we receive from Barnes and Noble each year are amazing. We could not possibly do this without your help.
Thanks for all that you do. You make our school amazing!
Please join us on Thursday, November 9 at 5:15 for our "Lanternfest" at Capitol Park. We will celebrate the beauty of Night with family and friends. The students will carry lanterns as they sing songs that they have learned in German. Please bring a potluck dish to share for dinner afterwards in our rooms. We hope that you can join us.
We enjoyed meeting with all of you immensely during our recent conferences. I have a request and I am sorry for the late notice. This is for an activity that has taken some time for me to work out in my mind with some help from Mrs. Fain.
I would like to help the students understand that the Mississippian Indians that lived at Moundville and other Native Americans traded with each other to exchange goods. Our children have grown up in a society in which we basically exchange money for good and services. I would like for them to experience the process of trade.
In an email from our Renweb online system, you will receive a link to view your child’s October progress report. This report was prepared using input from the various teachers with whom your child works. The report is divided into the eight areas of Multiple Intelligences as devised by Dr. Howard Gardner, a developmental psychologist from Harvard University. The Theory of Multiple Intelligences is the basis of our school’s philosophy. We believe that people have many ways of being smart.
When we first opened The Capitol School in 1993, we had to determine the best way to report progress. We tried narrative reports, but after reading an extensive report, parents would ask, “But how is he doing?” We decided that we needed to report progress in a way that would let parents know if their child was developing according the expectations for a child his or her age.
Our field trip to the Native American Festival at Moundville is tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 4. Many thanks to all of the parents who have agreed to drive and supervise. So many people have volunteered that we will have 1-2 students per parent. If you haven’t already submitted a copy of your driver’s license and insurance to the office, you can take a photo or scan a copy. Email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If your child will ride with another parent, he or she will need a carseat or booster. Check the list below to see if the parent driving has indicated that they already have an extra carseat installed. If so, you will not need to leave one. Please put your name on your carseat. You can leave it in our room or if the parent driving your child is here when you are, you can transfer your seat to that parent’s car at that time. You also might like to give the parent supervising your child your phone number. You could text it to him or her, leave a note with your child’s money, etc.
