Calendar
This calendar was determined by a parent survey conducted during the Spring 2011. As an international school, we have many parent requests for longer holidays so families can travel. Our calendar has fewer isolated holidays and more long weekends (Sept. 2 & 5, Jan. 13 & 16, Feb. 17 & 20). We have 3 week-long holidays (Oct. 24 – 28, Nov. 21 – 25, and March 12 – 16). Winter break is December 22 – January 3, 2012. While you may choose to be absent on Veterans Day on Thursday, Nov 11, our classes are in session (due to this mid-week holiday) and we plan special events and speakers to honor our U.S. veterans.
Parents may choose which religious holidays their children observe. Please send a note to your child’s teacher to inform him/her of upcoming holidays when your child will not attend school or will have special needs while they are in school such as specific times for prayer or fasting.
If days of school are missed, plan for your child to stay longer for several days to provide time for completing the year’s curriculum. With our extended preschool & elementary school day, students have the opportunity to be at school 40% more than schools on the 8:00 – 2:30 schedule. Over a school year, that is the equivalent of 93 more days of school! We do not plan to make-up days missed nor do we build “Weather Days” into our school year calendar.” During traditional school holidays, we offer 10 weeks of Summer Explorations and “Break Camp” at reasonable rates during most breaks and holidays for working parents.
Parent conferences will be held before school starts on Aug. 11 and 12 and during school hours and evenings on Oct. 6, Oct. 7, March 8, and March 9 (no school closing for conferences). In addition, parents may request a conference on Friday afternoons after 2:30 dismissal.
