Capitol School Students In Mayor’s Cup 5K Run

Five Capitol School elementary school students ran in the Mayor’s Cup 5K event in downtown Tuscaloosa on Saturday, April 24, 2010. The runners included Melanie Mew, Tayler Daughtry, Kristin Hobson, and Marko Beasley. Marko won third place in his age division. All runners completed the race through the pouring rain, and they refused to quit!

Our German students had another successful day at the University of Alabama’s German Day. We competed against high school German programs from across the state. We won:

• 13 Awards including:
1. 1st Place, individual poetry, level 2, Teddy Copeland
2. 2nd Place, individual poetry, level 3/4, Tori Marriot
3. 1st Place, group song, level 3/4, Tori Marriot, Dee Owens, Sean Mohabbat, Mary Hanna McDonald, Forest Copeland
4. Most Humorous Group Song, level 3/4
5. 2nd Place, spelling bee, level 1, River Copeland
6. 2nd Place, extemporaneous speaking, level 3/4, Tori Marriot
7. 3rd Place, extemporaneous speaking, level 1, Riley Peak
8. 2nd Place, dual show and tell, level 3/4, Tori Marriot and Sean Mohabbat
9. 2nd Place, dual show and tell, level 1, Riley Peak and River Copeland
10. 2nd Place, t-shirt design, level 2, Pascal Nad
11. 3rd Place, German video, level 3/4, Tori Marriot, Dee Owens, Nick Ultee, Forest Copeland
12. 3rd Place, original art, level 2, Teddy Copeland
13. 2nd Place, children’s book, level 3/4, Nick Ultee
• Tori Marriot ranked second place overall in level 3/4
