This is the beginning of our 26th school year for The Capitol School. In 1993, we enrolled 46 students in our new elementary program for students ages 5 - 11. Capitol School now serves 200 students from babies 1 month old through high school graduation. All of our teachers earned Alabama Teaching certification and advanced degrees. Most importantly, they love to teach!
You are all invited to our Get Acquainted Picnic on Aug. 28 at 5:15 p.m. on Capitol Park. The Rain date is set for Aug. 29. There will be a food truck on the park to purchase supper OR bring a picnic and a blanket to sit or lawn chairs. For each parent who comes, they can count 1-2 hours of volunteer service toward the 36 yearly family commitment. If two parents come for 2 hours = 4 volunteer hours to log on your online form. This event is sponsored by our Parent Teacher Council — you are ALL members as we included your family’s membership in the Registration Fee. However, Grandparents are welcome to join which will show our membership at over 100% with those those additional members.
Our Faculty of Lead Teachers for each multiage cluster is joined by Expert Teachers who provide instruction across the Multiple Intelligences to give your child every opportunity to learn and grow.
School started on Monday, August 13 and we still have a few openings for students older than Nursery and Preschool. Interested families should call the office at 205-758-2828 to speak to our Mrs. Pearson, Registrar.
We are so pleased to have our returning students and new students in classes for the 2018-19 school year. Welcome!
Dr. Rountree, Director
The library is in need of parent volunteers August 6-7 for various tasks to ensure the library is well organized and ready to receive students and faculty for the upcoming school year. Tasks include putting books in the correct order on shelves, applying stickers over barcodes, and taking books without barcodes off the shelves. While every effort has been made to ensure stickers are placed and unprocessed books are removed, there are always a few that slip through! Please contact our new librarian,Meagan Hudson at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule your volunteer time(s). Get a head start on earning your family’s commitment of 36 volunteer hours.
If I could only invite you to two events at Capitol School, I would choose Graduation and the International Festival. These events demonstrate the academic strengths and the uniqueness of our students. Please come to Graduation at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 25 at the Bama Theatre. This one hour event features their media presentations as a special way to capture their high school experience.
