The
Capitol School's philosophy and innovative program are based upon
the research of Dr. Howard Gardner who identified what he named
the Multiple Intelligences. Dr. Gardner of Harvard University summarized
the medical and educational research about teaching and learning
and gave rise to a new view of the capacities humans have for learning.
At the Capitol School, students are given opportunities to learn
and grow in each of these eight areas:
The
Capitol School seeks to identify each student's strengths, then
designs learning experiences that meet individual needs while adheringing
to state and national standards. Students learn at their own pace
and attain mastery of a topic or level before moving ahead. Students
are guided toward becoming self-motivated, lifelong learners.
At
some schools teachers ask, "How smart is this child?" At
The Capitol School our teachers ask, "How is this child smart?"
