Class Descriptions
Session 1: May 31 – June 10
a.m. All About Horses – Mrs. Margee Freeman, M.A. (Section #1)
All About Horses – Ms. Mary Whitman, B.S. (Section #2)
Your child will learn over 100 facts about ponies and horses. We’ll enjoy songs, games, and activities each day as we build an understanding about the types of horses, the vocabulary, care and grooming, colors of horses, what horses eat, etc. On June 10, we’ll have a visit from a pony and his owner to get a first hand lookat grooming and then have a ride on the pony (led by his owner) around theplayground.

p.m. Fun With Color – Mrs. Ruth O’Connor, M.F.A.
Come explore color as we introduce basic concepts of the color wheel! We will be finding colors all around us, making and mixing colors, playing with colors, reading stories about color, and learning some different names for new colors. Each day we will dive into a different color and the different ways we can see it. Sometimes dark, sometimes lighter, but what will happen when it is mixed with a different color? Did you know you can see a rainbow in a drop of water?
Session 2: June 13 – 24
a.m. Journey Through Africa – Mrs. Margee Freeman, M.A.
Your child can journey through African countries as we explore through geography, making African crafts, cooking ethnic foods, playing games and learning words in African languages. We’ll meet students who moved toTuscaloosa from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.
p.m. Dinosaurs – Mrs. Kathy McGuire, A.M.S.
Your preschooler can join the fun and learn more about dinosaurs. These creatures from the Creataceous Period are endlessly fascinating to young children. We will read stories about dinosaurs, sing songs, and have fun doing dino art. We’ll learn about paleontologists who study dinosaurs and even have dinosaur snacks. It will be a roaring good time for everyone!
Session 3: June 27 – July 8
(holiday on 4th of July)
a.m. Let’s Get Cooking – Mrs. Kathy McGuire, A.M.S.
Preschoolers will learn to follow directions each day as we make yummy snacks and simple meals. They’ll learn to use tools with kitchen safety as a priority. There will be lessons on manners and chances to practice our manners, too. This intro to Nutrition is one of life’s essentials to grow up healthy.
p.m. Spanish Explorations – Mrs. Ruth O’Connor, B.F.A., M.A.T.
Hola! Music, songs, movement, geography, culture, art, food, and of course, the Spanish language will be part of our time together. We will explore not only the language (with a native Spanish speaker) but also the many different aspects of Latin culture. Learn about the parts of the world that speak Spanish, the foods they eat, the songs they sing, the books they read, and the games they play. They may be very different or may be much like you!
Session 4: July 11 – July 22
a.m. Music, Music & KinderMusik – Ms. Hillary Burke, B.A.
Your preschooler will explore all things musical. The children will enjoy singing, playing instruments, learning about music notation,and moving to music. A structured lesson and lots of fun activities will be provided each day by this certified KinderMusik teacher.
p.m. Under the Sea – Mrs. Margee Freeman, M.A.
Your preschooler will explore the layers of the ocean and learn aboutthe many life forms. We’ll learn through visuals, media, crafting, singing and reading.
Session 5: July 25 – August 5
a.m. Weather Watchers– Mrs. Kathy McGuire, A.M.S.
We’ll watch the weather for these two weeks and learn weather patterns and geography. The lessons will range from rainbows to thunderstorms. We’ll make snowmen in July! There will be lots of fun art projects, songs, and hands-on science experiments to do. We’ll discuss the wonder of weather and discuss our fears, too.
p.m. Book Authors & Illustrators – Mrs. Margee Freeman, M.A.
Eight beloved authors and illustrators will be featured as your child learns each story and observes the art that helps tell the story. Your child will create his/her own story with pictures to go along with the words. This original book will be a treasure to take home to be read again and again.
