Description: Learn the basics of creative cooking through daily food challenges! Each day students will work in small groups and participate in a friendly cooking competition. We will alternate between days of a savory cooking challenge and a baking/decorating challenge. At the beginning of each class, students will work with the teacher and participate in a demonstration of the initial recipes cooking techniques and safety issues. Children will be carefully monitored for safety. Students will use math, critical thinking and reading skills learning to follow, adjust and convert recipes. They will learn about the science of food and why different techniques yield different results! In addition to learning about preparing delicious foods, we will explore ways we can make them more nutritious by using better ingredients. We will have the opportunity to use organic and locally grown vegetables provided by Snow’s Bend Farm. Your child will gain a lot of kitchen confidence learning about the culinary techniques, the importance of clean-up, and food handling safety that will allow them to be more independent in the kitchen!
