Description: Students will learn about the history and impact of automation and robotics as they explore mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Using the VEX Robotics and Legos platforms, students will apply what they know to design and program working mechanisms and robots.
Teacher Bio: Miss Keiosha R. Quarles is a dedicated, enthusiastic, and caring educator offering a solid educational background including a BA in Elementary Education from Tuskegee University. Miss Quarles has been teaching for four years and currently teaches robotics, coding, and computer at Westlawn Middle School in the Tuscaloosa City Schools System. Miss Quarles promotes life-long learning and having a growth mindset to her scholars. Her motto is "Empowering through Education" because she believes that educators should encourage our scholars and equip them with the necessary tools that are needed to be successful in life while nurturing a positive, growth mindset. Miss Quarles demonstrates excellence for scholars in her role as a TCS employee in a plethora of methods. She believes in cultivating positive relationships with her scholars both inside and outside of the classroom. She supports her scholars in all of their endeavors because they deserve support, love, and care in every aspect of their lives. Miss Quarles sets high expectations for all of her scholars and helps them achieve their goals by celebrating victories and facing obstacles with them and encouraging them to keep persevering. She is an advocate for reaching and teaching the whole child; with that being said, she has a scholar-centered learning environment with trauma-sensitive practices in place to foster a conducive learning environment.

Note: This cost is for the registration fee only. You must pay the balance of the total camp cost by the first day of camp. Information will be provided in your receipt or you can pay here: SE2020 Summer Camp Balance. You should also receive an email a week prior to the start of camp with payment information. You may also pay in the office.
