Session 3 PM: Little School on the Prairie
Session 3 PM: June 24 - July 5 (no camp on July 4)
Age / grade level: Grades 4-6
Teacher: Mrs. Shelia Hallman, B.S., M.S.
Description: Get your tin lunch pail ready and join us as we travel back to the time of the Laura Ingalls Wilder! We will be reading a few chapters of the book “Little House in the Big Woods” each day so that we can complete it in the two week session. Comprehension and vocabulary lessons will be included. In addition, the students will get to participate in period activities such as games, music, cooking over an open fire, making candles and soap, sewing, reading from a “Primer”, doing lessons with chalk on a slate board, learning the responsibilities of a teacher, and more!
Teacher Bio: Mrs. Sheila Hallman is a native of Northport and graduated from The University of Alabama with a B.S and a M.A. in Elementary Education. She taught with the Tuscaloosa County School system for 32 years, before retiring. The great majority of that time was spent teaching 1st grade. She is currently teaching 3rd grade at American Christian Academy. During the school year, she also teaches one Classroom Management course for student interns from UA. She states, “Teaching is certainly not just a job, it is my passion.” She also tutors in her spare time. Sheila said, “I'm so excited to have the opportunity to work with The Capitol School each summer! Summer Explorations is a wonderful program!”
