Middle School students work on their laptops using the wireless network at Capitol Park.

In preparing for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools visit, we gathered all our documentation on student achievement. Sanford Achievement Test (SAT) scores for our elementary students show that the "average score" among our third graders is grade 7.0! Our fourth graders' "average score" was grade 8.5! The fifth graders "average score was grade level 9.2!
note: The Capitol School does not use the state test that public school students in Alabama take; we use the national version.

Our sixth, seventh and eighth graders took the ACT Explore Exam [compiled by the same company that created the ACT exam]. All of the exams were scored as if the students were eighth graders. Even so, students at The Capitol School scored above the national average in every area but one. The national average for all eighth graders in all tests was 14.8. The average for sixth, seventh and eighth graders at The Capitol School was 15.46.

See "in the news" for more information on testing in other schools in the Tuscaloosa area.
