From the end of March until the end of May, our classes were all virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Students in our cluster transitioned to remote learning with an ease that was unexpected but welcomed. Parents worked to help students organize their time at home for learning and play.

For instruction, our cluster mastered the use of platforms like Zoom and Flipgrid! We also began working with Google Classroom and its many tools. Experts in the community provided outstanding supplemental virtual programs for history and science, and our own expert teachers provided families with practice materials and ideas for creative work in music, PE, art, German and Spanish!

Thanks to everyone who worked together to make the spring as successful as possible under such strange circumstances.

On November 16, The Spotted Eagle Owls Cluster presented their historical Wax Museum that highlighted figures from the 1500's through the late 1700's. The Wax Museum is shared each year at the PTC Thanksgiving Feast that is attended by the entire Capitol School community.

This year, the students spoke to museum visitors from 5:00 - 6:00pm at the Belk PARA center in Tuscaloosa. Included in the group were famous explorers, rebels, patriots, writers and presidents.

Families were able to meet Christopher Columbus, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Betsy Ross, Martha and George Washington, Hernando Cortes, Abigail and John Adams, to name a few.

Students worked from September through November to research and write their speeches from sources including books and websites. This event is a major part of the history and literacy curriculum for our cluster.
