Dr. Gerardo Ruz

Dr. Gerardo Ruz is a Venezuelan-born scholar, college professor, and K-12 teacher. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Language Teaching from the Universidad de Los Andes, Venezuela, a master’s degree in Spanish Literature-Curriculum and Instruction from Mississippi State University, and a Ph.D. in Romance Languages - Spanish from The University of Alabama. He has been recognized for his quality teaching and research. He fosters an inclusive language classroom where students feel safe, valued, respected, and engaged.

Dr. Ruz serves as the Head of the Spanish Program and Language Director for the Spanish and German programs at The Capitol School.

Our program at The Capitol School aims to help students develop interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication through a communicative approach that emphasizes global citizenship and adherence to the ACTFL Guidelines and World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. This approach guides learners in acquiring bicultural proficiency and improving essential language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through fun, interactive language-learning experiences, students develop practical language skills for real-life situations.
