Description:
Learning to read and continuing to develop reading skills is seen as one of the most essential skills developed in Elementary school. This course is designed to encourage a love of reading and literature. Individual lessons will be developed to address each person’s learning needs, from beginning reader to more advanced. Activities will include letter/sound or phonics skills, word skills, spelling skills, comprehension skills, reading strategies, and writing skills.
Teacher Bio: Mrs. Margaret L. Hill is the Lead Teacher of the five-seven year old cluster at The Capitol School. She was one of the founding teachers of the school in 1993. She has taught preschool, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade age children as well as college courses since beginning her teaching career in 1982. Mrs. Hill has also been the director of a preschool at The University of Alabama and a kindergarten teacher at Brookwood Elementary School in the Tuscaloosa County School System. She was Tuscaloosa County Schools Elementary Teacher of the Year, Phi Delta Kappa Elementary Teacher of the Year, and an ALFA Teacher of the Month. Mrs. Hill served as a mentor in Science Education working with graduate education students at The University of Alabama. She studied at Bishop Grosseteste College in Lincoln, England and High Wych JMI School in Sawbridgeworth, England. She strives to provide the best possible educational environment while addressing each child's individual needs. Mrs. Hill earned B.S., M.S. and Educational Specialist degrees in Early Childhood Education and holds an AA level Alabama teaching certificate. She has taught hundreds of students to love to read and to love science. She can often be heard playing the guitar and singing with her students. One of the things Mrs. Hill values the most is helping the students learn to treat others well and learn how to effectively work with other people.
Please fill out all information for each child's first registration. For additional registrations, you only have to complete the required information.
Note: This cost is for the registration fee only. You must pay the balance of the total camp cost by the first day of camp. Information will be provided in your receipt or you can pay here: SE2021 Summer Camp Balance. You should also receive an email a week prior to the start of camp with payment information. You may also pay in the office.
