Why the Capitol School?
The Capitol School is a Multiple Intelligence School founded in 1993 whose mission is to educate responsible citizens of the world.
Since 1993, our faculty has worked to find ways to incorporate Multiple Intelligences opportunities for our faculty and students in Pre-School through 12th grades. Medical research indicates the capacities of the brain and how the mind is organized.
Harvard psychologist, Dr. Howard Gardner, wrote Frames of Mind: Multiple Intelligences in 1983 and identified multiple intelligences -- rather than one general intelligence.

Welcome to the 2018-19 School Year!
This is the beginning of our 26th school year for The Capitol School. In 1993, we enrolled 46 students in our new elementary program for students ages 5 - 11. Capitol School now serves 200 students from babies 1 month old through high school graduation. All of our teachers earned Alabama Teaching certification and advanced degrees. Most importantly, they love to teach!
You are all invited to our Get Acquainted Picnic on Aug. 28 at 5:15 p.m. on Capitol Park. The rain date is set for Aug. 29. There will be a food truck on the park to purchase supper OR bring a picnic and a blanket to sit or lawn chairs. For each parent who comes, they can count 1-2 hours of volunteer service toward the 36 yearly family commitment. If two parents come for 2 hours = 4 volunteer hours to log on your online form. This event is sponsored by our Parent Teacher Council — you are ALL members as we included your family’s membership in the Registration Fee. However, grandparents are welcome to join which will show our membership at over 100% with those those additional members.
Our Faculty of Lead Teachers for each multiage cluster is joined by Expert Teachers who provide instruction across the Multiple Intelligences to give your child every opportunity to learn and grow.
School started on Monday, August 13 and we still have a few openings for students older than Nursery and Preschool. Interested families should call the office at 205-758-2828 to speak to our Mrs. Pearson, Registrar.
We are so pleased to have our returning students and new students in classes for the 2018-19 school year. Welcome!

Across the 11 southern states, there are only 10 schools that have attained international accreditation. International accreditation means that educational excellence, measured by world class standards, is practiced at The Capitol School. International accreditation ensures that all credits earned at The Capitol School are transferable to any accredited school throughout the world. Over the past decade, students from 57 different countries have been enrolled. Currently, one student in four was born abroad or has parents who are citizens of foreign countries.
Stroll down a corridor and you're likely to hear a classroom of students practicing the pronunciation of Spanish nouns. In another building, you might notice a young man reviewing college biology notes on his laptop. Glance out the window and you might see the soccer team warming up for a match. Just a typical school day. Except, those Spanish students are 3 year-olds, the young man studying college biology is a high school sophomore and the soccer coach is speaking in German. "
